A New Generation of Scientists at Asfendiyarov KazNMU: Seven Researchers Receive PhD Diplomas

From early cancer detection to the quality of primary healthcare — Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) presented a new generation of researchers whose work is already tackling critical healthcare challenges.

On September 15, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University hosted a ceremony to present PhD diplomas and completion certificates to the doctoral graduates of 2026.

This year, seven young scientists received PhD diplomas in “Medicine” and “Public Health.” Their research spans a wide range of vital fields, including oncology, neurology, dentistry, healthcare administration, pulmonology, and public health.

Among the new PhD holders is Nurlan Baltaev, Head of the Surgical Oncology Department at the Almaty Oncology Center, who studied early detection methods for colorectal cancer in patients with a hereditary predisposition.

Aigerim Galym, Deputy Chief Physician at the Keruen Medicus Medical Center, dedicated her research to the clinical features of demyelinating diseases of the multiple sclerosis spectrum in children within the Kazakh population.

Madi Tleshev, Assistant Professor at KazNMU’s Department of Prosthodontics, investigated the potential of titanium implants with nanostructured coatings in dentistry.

Four additional PhD diplomas were awarded in “Public Health.” Research by Kamshat Tolganbaeva, Maksat Mamyrkul, Galiya Bazarbekova, and Dinara Shaki focused on men’s health prevention, hospital care management during pandemics, the expansion of pulmonology services, and the accessibility of primary healthcare.

Dilyara Kaidarova, First Vice-Rector of KazNMU, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, congratulated the young scientists, wishing them continued professional growth and scientific excellence.

Diplomas in Public Health were presented by Professor Maksut Kulzhanov, Chairman of the relevant Dissertation Council.

The event celebrated established scientific milestones while also marking a new journey for the doctoral graduates of 2026.

This year, 20 candidates completed their doctoral studies at KazNMU: nine in “Medicine,” four in “Public Health,” three each in “Pharmacy” and “Pharmaceutical Production Technology,” and one in “Nursing Science.”

Three graduates were honored with the “Best Graduate of 2026” award.

Certificates of completion were presented by Vice-Rector of KazNMU, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Ubaidilla Datkhaev.

Today’s doctoral graduates are tomorrow’s healthcare leaders — defining future research agendas, treating patients, establishing new academic schools, and shaping decisions that drive the evolution of healthcare.

This is how university science thrives: not only through dissertations and publications, but through professionals dedicated to transforming knowledge into real-world impact.
